Concept
In 1919, the US Army's Military Transportation Corps (MTC) undertook a transcontinental Convoy to demonstrate the need for a mechanized Army. This "hooves to wheels" plan to modernize
America's fighting force needed an attention-getting event to energize Congress and the citizenry, and parading the Army's military might from coast-to-coast along the new Lincoln Highway
was a great way to get demonstrate new vehicles. (For a detailed history, click here)
As part of its mission to honor our country's military vehicle history, the MVPA has decided to recreate the famous 1919 Convoy in 2009 as a 90th Anniversary celebration of the achievement
and in conjunction with the nation's President Lincoln Bicentennial celebration. (For specifics on the proposed Convoy, click here)

MVPA 2009 Transcontinental Motor Convoy Information
This is a Convoy of historic military vehicles - of all eras, from WWI through to current-issue military vehicles. The vehicle roster currently includes WWI "FWD" cargo trucks, through to
Harley Davidson WLA motorcycles, staff cars and jeeps to later model M813 5-ton cargo trucks.
The Convoy daily stopping points are planned to be at locations used by the 1919 Convoy.
As the Convoy passes through the cities and towns along the Lincoln Highway, the MVPA intends, with the cooperation of the Lincoln Highway Association to draw attention to this early road system.
The Convoy plans to set up static displays depicting the historic significance of the 1919 Convoy, the Lincoln Highway and the Historic Military Vehicles on the Convoy. Appropriate
displays from our Sponsors will be welcomed and included.
Additionally the MVPA will present both the historical significance of the original 1919 Convoy and the historical significance of the military vehicles present on the 2009 Convoy.
Finally, as this 2009 Convoy passes through the many towns along this route, the MVPA will take every opportunity to also say "thanks" to our Veterans in a most patriotic way!
