The MVPA is pleased to have the support of the Lincoln Highway Association and the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (ALBC).
The Lincoln Highway began with the support of many American industrial giants of the time including the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company,
Firestone, the Hudson Motor Car Company, the Willys-Overland Company, Carl Fisher (builder of the Indianapolis Speedway) and Henry Joy
(Packard Motor Car Company). The name - the Lincoln Highway - was chosen because it was "… patriotic, resonant, inspiring … it was the ideal
name for an ideal road.* (*1 - taken from the book American Road, by Pete Davies, ISBN 0-8050-6883-X)
2009 will mark the 90th anniversary of this pivotal Convoy and the 200th anniversary of the birth of its namesake - Abraham Lincoln.
His name - LINCOLN - inspires millions of people today as he did during his life.
| To facilitate, organize and celebrate this major anniversary in American History, the United States Congress has authorized the creation of a two year Commission - the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission (ALBC). The MVPA is proud to announce that the 2009 Transcontinental Motor Convoy project has received an OFFICIAL ALBC ENDORSEMENT. www.lincolnbicentennial.gov/default.aspx. |
